It is estimated that approximately 50-60% of the dementia population has Alzheimer’s. According to the National Institute of Aging, Alzheimer’s is identified as the fourth leading cause of death among the elderly.  The highest risk factors associated with Alzheimer’s is old age. So how do we protect ourselves?

One protective factor is having a rich social network. Learning new information, or a new skill amongst peers and friends helps decrease the risk because we are using our neural networks to form new pathways.

We are lucky to have a local Senior Friendship Center that provides a myriad of activities from exercise classes to music nights. Perfect Solution is a proud corporate sponsor of the Friendship Center, and our clients are welcomed to go under our corporate name.

Yet, even though there are fabulous activities for Seniors to join, if there is no initiation on one’s part, it does not matter the multitude of services. That’s why we suggest hiring a caregiver to assist in initiating and assisting in socialization which provides the “bridge” so one is more comfortable being in new situations and events.
